ghow.jpgThe Arizona Game & Fish Department's Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area between Bisbee and Elfrida is an oasis for breeding and migrating birds and winter home to hawks, eagles, falcons, owls, waterfowl, songbirds, and thousands of Sandhill Cranes. This 3-hour bird walk begins at 8 a.m. Picnic facilities are available, and participants are encouraged to bring lunch as well as drinking water (the site has restrooms but no potable water). The walk will cover the main wildlife viewing area and adjacent trails, 1.5 to 2 miles in all over mostly level terrain. Sandhill Cranes may still present in early March; if so, they should begin arriving back at the wetland around the end of the walk.

$5 per person for adult members of SABO, $10 for adult non-members; $2/members, $5/non-members for children age 10 to 16 when accompanied by an adult. Reservations are recommended; pre-paid registration is refundable only if SABO cancels the walk on account of weather, road conditions, or other access issues. Personalized tours of Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area for individuals and groups are available with advance arrangements. For more information, contact SABO.
