eltrma.jpgHuachuca Canyon on Fort Huachuca has begun to rival nearby Garden Canyon for its bird life. Elegant Trogons, Montezuma Quail, Arizona Woodpeckers, Sulphur-bellied Flycatchers, Hepatic Tanagers, and Painted Redstarts are among its more notable avian residents.

This 5-hour field trip will begin with "warm-up" birding in the lower part of the canyon followed by a mildly demanding walk at higher elevations. Actual walking and driving distance covered will depend on the quality of the birding and condition of the road. Limited to 10 participants, U.S. citizens only.

$20 per person for members of SABO, $25 for non-members. Prepaid reservations are highly recommended; fees are refundable only if unforeseen circumstances force SABO to cancel the walk.

The Huachuca Canyon Walk begins at a picnic area in lower Huachuca Canyon on Fort Huachuca. Click for interactive Fiesta de las Aves map.
