Join a SABO naturalist at Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area, just 30
minutes from Bisbee, for the awe-inspiring spectacle of thousands of
Sandhill Cranes returning from breakfast in nearby farm fields. As the
flocks arrive at the wetland that they share with ducks, geese,
shorebirds, songbirds, and birds of prey, we'll observe their behavior
and talk about their family lives and intercontinental travels. With
luck, we may even get to witness an attack by a Bald or Golden eagle,
their main natural predators!
This program is a family-friendly
activity suitable for wildlife watchers of all ages and
free to the public thanks to the generosity of the Southeastern
Arizona Bird Observatory's members and donors. No reservations are
required, but donations are appreciated. A spotting scope,
field guides, and visual aids will be available to help you get to know
these magnificent birds.
The main entrance to Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area is on Coffman Road
west of Central Highway and south of Davis Road, approximately 30
minutes from Bisbee. See SABO's
activities map for turn-by-turn directions from your starting point.
