Hummingbird Adoption Coordinator(s)
SABO's
hummingbird adoption program supports our humingbird monitoring
hummingbird and expands our outreach on behalf of migratory birds,
pollinators, and the San Pedro River. Members of the public who sponsor
banded hummingbirds receive personalized adoption packets and are
notified if/when the birds they sponsor are reencountered.
Location:
southeastern Arizona
Time commitment: 4 to 16 hours/month during hummingbird
banding season (late
March-early June, late June-early October), less than 4 hours/month
outside
banding season. Responsibilities
may be divided or shared among members of an adoption program team.
Responsibilities: - Enter data from adoption
application forms (paper and electronic) and banding records into
Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
- Use mail merge features of
Microsoft Word to generate, print, and mail adoption packets
(personalized certificates, "biographies" of adopted birds, cover
letters, mailing labels); paper, ink, envelopes, and postage will be
provided or reimbursed.
- Enter new hummingbird sponsors into
online
membership database.
- Use recapture data (band number, condition)
to notify hummingbird sponsors of reencounters with and status of their
birds.
Qualifications: - familiarity
with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and mail merge procedures
- basic
typing and desktop publishing skills
- excellent spelling and
grammar
- attention to detail
- Internet access
