    Congratulations to our friends and colleagues at Liberty Wildlife on the organization's forthcoming induction into the Arizona Outdoor Hall of Fame. The inductees are being honored for outstanding contributions and service that have benefited Arizona's wildlife and their habitats.The other honorees are William Cordasco, president of Babbitt Ranches and the Ecological Monitoring and Assessment Foundation, Michael M. Golightly, three-term member of the Arizona Game and Fish Commission, and the Rio Salado Sportsman’s Club. The ceremony will take place at the Wildlife for Tomorrow Foundation's annual Outdoor Hall of Fame banquet on Aug. 28.

    The Horseshoe Fire continues to burn in the Chiricahua Mountains near Portal.

    The Forest Service has reopened Cave Creek Road (Forest Rd. 42), but the South Fork of Cave Creek and Herb Martyr Campground Road remain closed, and the campgrounds at Herb Martyr, Idlewilde, John Hand Stewart, South Fork, and Sunny Flat are also closed.

    An adult male Rufous Hummingbird was seen in Bisbee this morning, probably on his way north from Mexico. Broad-tailed Hummingbirds are another early migrant and are expected any day. Arizona residents and visitors are asked to keep their eyes and ears open for early northbound migrant hummingbirds and report them to the Arizona Hummingbird Survey.

    We were honored and humbled to learn that Macre Inabinet's family has designated the Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory as a beneficiary of donations in her memory.

    We're delighted to welcome back Basic Business member Alta Vista Bed and Breakfast Inn, birder-friendly lodging in Tucson owned and managed by Peter & Gaila Smith.
